“(The Journey)-“is about fearlessly leaping off the edge of the known to confront the unknown, and trusting that when the time comes, we will have what we need to face our dragons, discover our treasures and return to transform the kingdom. It is also about learning to be true to ourselves and live in responsible community with one another.”
– Carol Pearson – Awakening the Heroes Within
In the summer of 2007 I sat down in a darkened library and listened to a talk that transformed my life.
Sally Landsburg was explaining Joseph Campbell’s model of The Hero’s Journey and she used the example of The Wizard of Oz and Dorothy, its heroine, to illustrate the milestones in the journey.
I learned that these milestones were in stories but also in our very lives!
I had always loved the Wizard of Oz (Don’t we all?).
My women’s empowerment business that I started in 2000, was called Ruby Slippers, and in workshops and retreats I taught that our intuition was our own internal version of the ruby slippers – getting us to where we want to go (if we listen to it!). But this talk blew it all up for me. I had found the elixir!
Now I had the perfect framework for my work with women – the hero’s…no, the Heroine’s Journey!
I teach that women who answer their call to be their big selves and venture out into the unknown to answer that call, are heroines.
My life’s work is to remind every woman that they are on this amazing, transformational journey and that they are, indeed, heroines.
I wrote a book You Are a Heroine: A Retelling of The Hero’s Journey and started an online school, The School for Real-Life Heroines to make my vision of every woman knowing her full worth and value, a reality.
You are bigger than you realize! Heroines (yes you, reading this) it’s time to transform the kingdom!!
Your Strength: My belief in the big potential in every woman.
